What are the steps in applying the implant to the patient?
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: The suitability of the patient’s bone structure and amount is determined clinically and radiologically, and a good implant treatment plan is made in line with the patient’s wishes and needs.
Implant Surgery: In implant surgeries, which are generally performed with local anesthesia of the relevant area, general anesthesia may also be preferred depending on the procedure duration and type of surgery. During surgical implant placement, after all sterile conditions are met, implant cavities are prepared with special drills in the planned places in the jaw bone according to the implant system to be applied, and the implants are placed in these cavities.
Healing Process: Gum healing process; It ends after 7-10 days with the removal of any stitches. However, for bone tissue, which heals very slowly compared to gums, this physiological process takes an average of 3-6 months. This process may take longer in advanced surgical procedures such as bone grafting.
Construction Phase of Prostheses: We can divide implant-supported prostheses into two: fixed and removable. Fixed prosthetic treatments; It is made in the form of crowns and bridges and completely restores the patient’s lost natural tooth function. In removable prosthetic treatments, it is possible to provide very good retention of the palate with implants, which the patient can attach and remove.
Can the implant be applied to every patient?
The general health conditions of our patients should first be evaluated carefully. Patients who are at risk of bleeding or infection due to systemic diseases, who cannot receive adequate care, and whose jaw bones are not suitable for treatment should be directed to prosthetic treatments other than implants. Apart from these, implant treatment can be applied to any patient at any age who is in good general health, has sufficient bone and has completed bone development.
Can I have an implant immediately after tooth extraction?
Implant applications can be performed immediately at the time of tooth extraction, this process is called immediate implant surgery. To be successful, the bone and infection status in the extracted tooth area must be carefully evaluated and a decision made. If it will not be placed immediately, the patient can have an implant after 6-8 weeks of bone healing after extraction. Repairing missing teeth in a short time after extraction will both protect the existing bone and prevent possible slippage in the teeth. Especially in the upper jaw, the roots of the rear molars are anatomically in relationship with the sinus, which accelerates bone resorption after extraction and leads to the need for bone addition.
Is implant treatment difficult and painful?
No, it is not, the surgical procedure is performed completely painless.
In terms of difficulty, each patient has a different anatomy and metabolism. Implant treatment and planning for each patient may be different and bone structure and amounts may vary. Informing the patient in detail and accurately by the physician before the treatment will ensure that this process is comfortable.
How long is the life of the implant?
As long as there is healthy bone tissue and gum around the implant, the implant maintains its continuity. Regular check-ups with your doctor and good oral hygiene and care of the patient after the construction phase of the implants are completed will prolong the life of the implant. Physiological bone loss due to aging is one of the negative factors affecting the life of the implant. We see in research that smoking also plays an active role in gum diseases and bone loss and affects the life of the implant.
How much are dental implant prices?
Compared to other treatment fees, implant treatment is more expensive due to the material used. The number of implants to be made and the type of prosthetic treatment also affect this fee. In addition, improving the quality of life and providing longer-term solutions for patients makes implant treatment indispensable for patients and physicians today.
